Crown of Glory

As I Can See

When I doubt people, I feel pain.
When I judge people, it is unbearable.
When I hate people, there is no value to my existence.

Yet if I believe, I am deceived.
If I love, I am betrayed.
Suffering and grieving tonight, my head in my hands
Am I wrong?

Yes, I am wrong.
Even though we are deceived, still believe.
Though we are betrayed, still forgive.
Love completely even those who hate you.

Wipe your tears away and welcome with a smile
Those who know nothing but deceit
And those who betray without regret.

Oh Master! The pain of loving!
Look at my hands.
Place your hand on my chest.
My heart is bursting, such agony!

But when I loved those who acted against me
I brought victory.
If you have done the same thing,
I will give you the crown of glory.

Hope and the Life of Practice

After Jesus came and left, his twelve disciples walked the same path. They went into Rome and endured the severity of persecution. They were crucified and put to death. They were left for dead. In spite of such, they still did not give up their hope. The joy that they received from having hope was stronger than the fear they felt of death, stronger than any pain they received from tribulation; stronger than any armament. It was stronger than any influence and anything that was boasted of in the world. We have learned that Christianity was established on the grounds which prophets and sages walked, embracing hope more strongly than anything else.

Today we are placed in a situation where we too must entertain a new hope and set up and affect an object on the worldwide level. This being the reality, you will have to understand that the hope you cherish should exert stronger influence than any other power. Even if death comes upon you, even if all this universe is to disappear, hope should be the source of power with which you can overcome. Only if you become such unchanging central figures of hope will you be able to stand in front of Heaven.

There have been many people until now who boasted of themselves as having good faith. However, we have often seen people who boast of themselves fading away. No matter how much one boasts of his good faith, unless he can stand as one central being of hope who has won victory over the last hill of death, we must realize that he will end up being a loser in life.

If we establish the church and build the nation after rendering devoted service for the sake of Heaven, embracing the hope that cannot be bartered for all the things we own and that is even more precious than our life, the task of seeking a new hope through the church and the nation will take place on this hopeless earth. Through them, all of humankind, who were wandering without hope, will find a new hope.

Each of you who stepped forth to seek a new path must keep the hope of which you cannot help boasting in front of all humankind, even in the face of fear and death. With the firm faith that you have such a hope, even if you grapple with some difficulties of the environment, you must become people who can overcome them with dignity and happiness. If you become such people, you will not own worldly joy, but heavenly joy, which is eternal. The restored life in such an atmosphere is not the life that dies after living in this world; it is the life that lives forever. What is more, if there is a person who seeks such a hope, he will be the one who can live forever in God’s love, not in the love humans advocate. If one seeks such a hope, he would have to be considered qualified to stand in front of all humankind without defect. Therefore, today we must have a hope that is not earth-bound or blocked by the hill of death, but one with which we can surmount the hill of death. Unless we are able to have such a hope, the dispensational history of Heaven, who came looking for us after having crossed the hill of death will end in failure.

Heaven stresses that only after we go over the hill of death are eternal hope, eternal happiness, and the eternal ideology given. In fact, Heaven seeks us through the hill of death. Therefore, we must have the hope with which we can surmount death. Without this hope, we cannot travel this path. That is why Paul said, “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Romans 8:18) Deeply touched in his heart by the thoroughgoing hope that no one had, Paul had to assume responsibility for the difficult surroundings alone, and he went forth fighting. You must know this.

Without regarding the numerous hills of death, to seek out this hope for human beings, Heaven has come seeking several thousand years. Therefore, today we must become the people who know how to go over the hill of death, embracing heavenly hope. Unless we become such people, we will not have eternal heavenly hope. You must understand this.

Jesus also said, “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” (John 12:25) This parable was not made by worldly people, but by Jesus, who represented Heaven. This seems like a contradictory statement. However, Jesus made this statement because human beings are left with the course of life in which they have to march on, resolving the contradiction of the environment.

The Ultimate Destination of Love

There are many sorrowful people around us, and there are many who are not sorrowful. Our families, cities and nations are either sorrowful or they are not. Some are developing and others are not; some people are smiling and others crying.

In this way everyone is different, yet everybody dislikes sorrow and a place of solitude. Everyone also seeks joy, glory and happiness. The same is true with every family, society and even every nation. Everyone tries to avoid sorrow, seeking glory, and for that purpose everyone endures hardships. The same is true with the world. If there is a being who controls the whole, then that being should definitely be the same as human beings. Heavenly Father is definitely the same as human beings.

Love wasn’t meant to be given in a lonely, suffering place but in a free, glorious place. God’s heart is such that He wants to give His utmost love in such a receptive environment.

On earth, is there any human being who can do that? We have to think about it. That utmost love is not to be given only to a certain individual; rather it is to be given to families and to the whole world. This is the essence of love.

The nature of love is such that it is given to two people rather than one person, and it is given to three people rather than two people, and to 10 people. Thus, the force of love reaches toward the whole world rather than toward a certain nation. This is the way love works. Therefore, it is possible for love to flow toward human beings here on earth. The ultimate destination of love should be the greatest of all things. A parent with many children would be able to understand this deep heart. Such a person cannot have an enemy. All human beings have to receive love. If you think that you alone should receive love and not the world, then this way of thinking would be destructive.

God’s desire is not confined to a certain individual. Heaven seeks the whole, hence, the distinction between public life and private live. Public life is for the sake of the whole. Therefore, to serve the expectations of the whole is to lead a public life. Joy cannot exist only for yourself. It would be chased away by the joy of the whole. I think God is that way. Therefore, those who are wise live for the future, not only for the present. Hence, you see the necessity of faith. Once you have faith, hope can exist. Victory should not be confined to the individual level; it should be for the whole.

It is not good to think that you are you and I am I. The truth is that you are me and I am you. We need to attain that level of awareness. Individual victory can only bring forth individual joy. However, if individual victory is dedicated to the whole, then it can belong to the whole. Therefore, individual sacrifice can bring about public victory.

The greater the sacrifice, the greater the value. By following this principle, the world can prosper. Sacrifice for others always accompanies the path of love. We cannot walk that path by any other method. We cannot rejoice as individuals. In this sense, victory cannot exist in religion. Of course w exist as individuals, but we as individuals exist for the sake of our nation and for the sake of the whole world. We must understand that clearly. We as individuals should symbolize the world. Hence, individuals should live for the public.

It is in this way that God’s love expands infinitely. We must not live only for the sake of the Unification Church but for the sake of our nation and for the sake of the world. Although we may have to sacrifice ourselves, we must walk this path. This is the way we as individuals should live. When you see a beautiful sunset, do you want to see it only by yourself? In your truest heart you would want everyone to see such a beautiful thing. So the eternal Kingdom of Heaven cannot exist only within an individual. It can exist only within the whole.

God’s ideal

As human beings created by God, we were born with the hope of attaining the ideal world. When we say “ideal world,” we should know that the concept of the ideal originates from God. God did not create the world of power, glory or wealth. God has no desire for these. However, it would not be right to say that God has no desires at all. God exists as the embodiment of true love. The motivation for God’s creation is true love, and God’s desired object is a true person. Even God has to have a relationship in order to experience love. True love can be experienced only through a relationship between “a subject and an object.” No isolated being can experience love. Only beings capable of freely giving and receiving are able to engage in loving relationships. God created human beings to become the perfect object of His love, as beings who would freely give and receive love in relationship with God. Human beings are God’s sons and daughters, created with a natural inclination toward true love. God is the True Parent of humankind. He created us as beings who could participate in and inherit His true love. In addition, He created the natural world as a protective environment for humankind. Through the relationship of true love, both God and man would experience the highest form of joy.

God wanted Adam and Eve to grow in purity centered on true love and become true people. God had carefully provided the environment for their biological development and their nourishment. God’s central concern, however, was with their internal character.

Human beings realize the ideal by coming to reflect God’s true love. God had created the power of love to be the most powerful of all internal forces. When, on the heavenly path, human beings experience the power of God’s love, they come to resemble God, becoming one with God and perfecting themselves. For this reason, we may say God’s love is the essence of human happiness, life and ideals.

Adam and Eve were supposed to grow in God’s love to become true human beings, then true husband and wife, and true parents. Men and women become true parents when they become beings of perfected character, inheriting God’s unselfish, unconditional, parental love.

People experience God’s true love in stages through life’s periods of growth. Through their life course, each individual is meant to come to know the love of children, the love of brothers and sisters, the love of husband and wife, and the love of parents. The foundation upon which these four kinds of love and heart can stand is the family. The family is the basis for human love, happiness, life and blood lineage. Similarly, the family of true love is the hope of humankind and the essence of God’s purpose of creation.

The true perfection of the individual, family, society or environment has its root in the realization of true love within a family. People who have become the embodiment of God’s true love cannot disobey God’s will, violate other people, or misuse creation.
