A Real Human Being

Limited as we are, we must find out how we can become one with the Almighty. Certainly a true or real human being can become one with Him. Then what is the definition of that real human being? It is the man or woman who embodies true love. I don’t think any one of you in this audience can raise any question or doubt about that. Beyond your color, creed, or religious persuasion, I’m sure you can agree with me that true love is what brings us together with the Almighty.

Another key question today is this: Can human beings be perfected? Can we become perfect men and women? If the answer ultimately is no, that is tragic. If we believe that no matter how much we try we will always end up in tragedy, because there is no room for perfection, then we cannot have true hope.

What is the Kingdom of Heaven? The Kingdom of Heaven is the place where the men and women of perfection shall dwell for eternity. When we talk about perfection, we are talking about the perfection of love between men and women.

It must be God’s plan to realize His ideal upon the face of the earth. I do believe that men and women are endowed with the potential for perfection. Men and women are going to be His almighty instrument. I didn’t say we are all perfect, but we’re given the potential for perfection; and God is trying to help us realize that potential so we can all become one with Him.

As a custom we shake hands when we meet and when we part; but do we truly meet each other with perfected love, and part with that same love? Do we practice the kind of true love at home that was God’s vision from day one, when He created men and women? Has such an example ever existed? This is a question that needs to be addressed.

Conscience: Teacher and Parent

Every human being, throughout his life, has a most precious teacher within himself. Nevertheless that teacher has been mistreated, trampled upon, and abused. That teacher is the human conscience. Your conscience always speaks out for your own benefit, trying to connect you to true love. Like a parent, your conscience urges you to be a good, unselfish individual, and guides you to do the will of God. But within each person there is also a rebel who always goes against the conscience. That rebel is the. physical body.

The body has trampled and abused the conscience miserably. When one becomes aware of this, can he take the side of the body which has been the enemy of his own conscience, and which has greatly damaged his own life and personality?

Your conscience should be your constant internal teacher and parent, leading you to complete unity with the ultimate parents of mankind, God. The conscience, then, is the agent of God within you, and may even be called a “second God.” Do you think you should be sympathetic and protective of your body, the enemy of the conscience? Or do you think you should control and confine your body and vindicate your conscience? Your body only goes after carnal desire. When it is hungry, it steals and satisfies itself. It always seeks for comfort, and wants to take advantage of others. The body has its own realm. To conquer the realm of the body is an awesome responsibility which every person must undertake. When this is achieved, the mind as the vertical self and the body as the horizontal self are completely harmonized into oneness, and a person reaches perfection, united in love with God for eternity.

The Nature of God

Just as a work of art displays the invisible nature of its maker in a concrete form, everything in the created universe is a substantial manifestation of some quality of the Creator’s invisible, divine nature. As such, each stands in a relationship to God. Just as we can come to know the character of an artist through his works, so we can understand the nature of God by observing the diverse things of creation.

(from the book: Exposition of the Divine Principle)

Friends of God

Ladies and gentlemen, your sons and daughters grow up. When you reach the age of one hundred and your children reach the age of eighty, the relationship of father and son also becomes a relationship of friends. Friends! We cannot compare the physical strength of a woman with that of a man. Women can never defeat men physically; but, through love, wife and husband are attracted to one another and they come to resemble each other. If Adam and Eve had become the objects of God’s love, would that have been pleasing to Him? Absolutely, yes! God created the universe before Adam and Eve perfected themselves as the objects of His love. God had the ambitious hope that in the future they would be His ideal objects. If, after having perfected themselves as the objects of God’s love, they had asked God to create something greater than what He had already created, do you think He could have done so?

Given the infinite ambition of our consciences, we should know that God can create everything we desire. God created us with the value of true love object partners. Because this absolute value was lost, it must be restored. This restoration is the purpose of human life and history. God established religions and promised that someday each of the founders of those religions would return.

Christianity has taught that Jesus will return. In Buddhism, they speak of the return of Buddha. Confucianism alludes to a new Confucius. Likewise, in Islam, believers await the return of Mohammed. What could be the reason God established the different religions? We need to understand that the Will of God is accomplished centered on His beloved children, children who are like God’s flesh and blood. With that type of son and daughter, God wants to form families, tribes, races and nations.

We need to understand, then, what the Messiah is. The Lord in his second coming is the person who completes the ideal for which all religions have longed, descending to the earth with the root of true love from the eternal God. He will become a True Father. Through the restoration of that lost true love, he will work to establish a true family on earth, on the foundation of true life and true lineage.

That is the purpose of the providence of salvation. Due to the fall, God lost the true mother as well as the children of Adam’s family. This means that God could not have true children. There was no family connected to the blood lineage which was to come from God’s love. Through fallen parents, blood ties originated from false love and false life, and the struggle between mind and body began. Adam and Eve became enemies to each other. There was a fight to the death between Adam’s sons.

The providence of salvation is the providence of restoration, which God has been leading in order to restore his lost sons and daughters, restore the absolute unity of mind and body, restore the absolute unity of husband and wife, and restore the absolute unity of parents and children in the true love of God. This true family, which is qualified to live eternally with God, should be connected to Christianity, which is in the position of the bride to the Lord. By establishing such a blood relationship with God, we can realize united families, united tribes, united races and united nations, which thus will bring about the united world, the culmination of the providence of salvation.

Human beings are created in pairs

Human beings are created in pairs. What power makes the two become one? Even if we used a compressor and forced the two to become one, they would still separate. But centering on the power of love they will never separate. All things that are complete, good, and valuable require and are based on love. To the person who helps you and loves you with a sincere heart, would you like to return his help a hundred fold or would you keep 10 percent and give him only 90 percent back? The only way you can return something a hundred times over is by the power of love.
